Under the Equality Act 2010, businesses must allow assistance dogs into public places without requiring documentation or proof of training. Landlords cannot demand ID cards or certification as a condition of access, as the legislation protects the handler's right to be accompanied by their working dog. Only if a dog is misbehaving or poses a threat can a business legally refuse access.
If challenged about your assistance dog's legitimacy, politely remind staff of their legal obligations under the Equality Act 2010. You are not required to carry or produce documentation. If refused access, note the business details and date, then report the incident to the Assistance Dog Registry for your records.
